Yep, you heard it here first. Old World vs New World score is a draw today, 1:1. And this despite a hangover (how could I forget what they’re like!). So thank you London, thank you life.
But the history too. Been off air for a week or so and wasn’t sure why. Was it the going back to school business? Not really. And I really enjoy the routine of writing on here daily, it’s certainly no chore. Well, last night as I made packed lunches, I realised.
Since my post on the Old World winning because of financial pressure, I’ve been feeling my own little version of the great depression, but caused by me. I mean ‘what the heck am I doing?’ I was thinking. It’s all very well wanting to be at pick up for your child, and wanting to write. But ‘come on, you need to return to the real world! Ever heard the expression ‘don’t give up your day job’?
And then, yesterday, I pulled my socks up my friend! Yep. Off I was writing and pitching features ecstatic over having the chance to do what I love. And at 3.30, the computer was off and so was I, school pick up, local shop for fresh corn still in its cover (what do you call that?) and then our library for a crafts workshop. Such a peaceful time there, Bella humming as she created her owls, along with the chatter of our librarians.
Then home to make Paul Hollywood’s mum’s ginger biscuits from the Weekend Telegraph – they seemed even simple enough for me, baking is not something I do, ever or well. So proof is in the … biscuit picture. Not beautiful maybe but pretty tasty. To top it all off, an evening at Liars’ League listening to short stories read out by actors, with my first glass of wine in two months!
I love our owls so they get an extra big picture today. And they may go up on the wall when they return from their trip to ‘show and tell’ today. A reminder. When it’s tough, I’ll keep going. When (or hopefully if) it’s going to turn ugly, I’ll stop. For now, we’re safe, we’re warm, we have everything we need. As a 98 year-old woman we visit always tells me: ‘these things are sent to try us’.
